The Government of South Australia is preparing for cleaner more environmentally friendly transportation by increasing the use of plug-in electric vehicles as part of the recently released Electric Vehicle Action Plan.

Action Theme 2 of the plan empowers government agencies to lead by example with their vehicle fleets. Action 4 of this theme requires that new government fleet vehicles are to be plug-in electric models, where they are cost effective and fit-for-purpose.

Increasing the number of plug-in electric vehicles in the government motor vehicle fleet will enable the Government of South Australia to realise the benefits to the electricity network, reduce annual liquid fuel spend for transportation in the passenger and light commercial motor vehicle fleet, reduce tail-pipe emissions and to lead by example.  These efficient low and zero emission vehicles are made available for sale to the public after their government fleet life, where the benefits continue for many years into the future.

More information about the South Australia’s Electric Vehicle Action Plan is available from the Department for Energy and Mining.

Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Guide

The Department of Energy and Mining has produced an Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Guide that provides practical advice to government agencies on electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure requirements to support initial fleet transitions.
